As a college student, it is never fun to think too far into the future. The real world is a daunting place that lies far beyond the boundaries of a cozy college life. As anybody who knows me could tell you, I don't likep lanning anything more than a day in advance. Recently, I came to realize that my generation no longer has that luxury.
As a senior in high school, I learned about the real state of our country's finances. The national debt is growing at an alarming pace, and as America's baby boomers start to retire, the burden placed on our federal budget is one that we cannot absorb. Unless some serious steps are taken, America's budget will be entirely consumed by spending on entitlement programs and paying interest on outstanding debt. Essentially, America is on the path towards bankruptcy. This is not the kind of America that I wish to raise my children in.
Together with some classmates, we decided to form Concerned Youth of America (CYA) to bring this issue to our peers and mobilize other students towards our cause. Today's youth may not be responsible for the causes of this problem, but we will certainly inherit the consequences. The more that we have gone around the nation talking to high school and college students about the expanding federal debt, the more we realize that this issue, more than any other, will shape the future of America. We invite you to browse our website and look at why we are so concerned, and what you can do to get involved.
