  • Senator Tom Coburn Endorses Concerned Youth of America

Today, United States Senator Tom Coburn, Republican of Oklahoma, announced his endorsement of Concerned Youth of America. He writes:

I am pleased to endorse ‘Concerned Youth of America.‘ It is fitting for our youth to be concerned with Congress‘ inability to balance the national budget, pay off our growing debt, and enact necessary entitlement reform, since they are the ones who will be shouldered with this debt. I am hopeful that organizations such as this one started by college and high school students will inspire not only other students, but Americans of all ages to demand federal fiscal responsibility.

  • United States Comptroller General Endorses Concerned Youth of America

Today in a letter to Concerned Youth of America Executive Director Yoni Gruskin, David M. Walker, Comptroller General of the United States, offered his endorsement to CYA. He writes:

    Dear Yoni:

Congratulations on today‘s launch of Concerned Youth of America! It is with great delight that I welcome you and your colleagues to the much needed and long overdue debate concerning our nation‘s fiscal future.

I have made it a personal priority to engage young Americans in discussions about the need to address our nation‘s fiscal and other sustainability challenges. The retirement of the "baby boom generation" will bring a tsumani of spending that could swamp our ship of state if we do not start making tough choices soon. As a baby boomer, I don‘t want to leave our children and grandchildren with unbearable debt burdens.

Your generation needs to be informed and involved to help define the policy choices that our elected leaders must confront, including constraining spending, reforming existing entitlement programs and revamping current tax policies. You and your fellow CYA members efforts to raise awareness on campuses across the country is an important effort in the war against myopia, tunnel vision and self-centeredness.

Working together and with others we can help to make sure that elected officials make the choices necessary to help assure that our future is better then our past. I offer my very best wishes for CYA‘s success.

    Sincerely,

    David M. Walker

Comptroller General of the United States
